Patientswithintraductalpapillarymucinousneoplasms(IPMNs，胰腺粘液性囊腺瘤)shouldundergosurgeryifthereisevenasmalldilatationofthemainpancreaticduct(MPD，主胰管),sayUSresearchers.Theyarguethatsuchsurgerycouldhelppreventthedevelopmentofpancreaticcancer（胰腺癌）.

Thestudysetout（开始）toexaminefactorsthatpredictthedevelopmentofpancreaticcancer.TheresearchersreviewedtherecordsofalmostpatientswithIPMNwhounderwentpancreaticresection（切除术）atleadingcentersinSwedenandtheUnitedStates.

Theirreviewrevealedthatofallthepreoperativepatientanddisease-relatedfactorsexamined,onlydilatation（扩张）oftheMPDsignificantlypredictedthepresenceofhigh-gradeorinvasive（侵袭性）IPMN,aconditionassociatedwithcancerprogression.

Asexpected,dilatationof≥10mmwasassociatedwithamorethansixfoldincreasedriskforhigh-gradeIPMNand15-foldincreasedriskforinvasiveIPMN.

However,evenadilatationof5mm–9.9mm,whichisnotuniversallyregardedasanindicationforsurgery,waslinkedtoanalmostthreefoldincreasedriskforhigh-gradeIPMNandamorethanfourfoldincreasedriskforinvasiveIPMN.
